Executive Director

Position Overview

The Executive Director serves as the chief leader of the Watertown Area United Way, overseeing fundraising, community impact, financial stewardship, marketing, and agency partnerships. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, this role requires strong initiative, strategic thinking, and a commitment to delivering meaningful results for our community.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Guide organizational strategy, goal-setting, and annual campaign planning.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, equity, and accountability.

Fundraising & Donor Engagement

  • Lead workplace giving, sponsorships, special events, and donor relations.
  • Cultivate corporate partners, individual donors, foundations, and civic organizations.

Community Impact & Agency Relations

  • Manage funding allocations and maintain strong relationships with 30+ nonprofit partners.
  • Represent United Way on community committees and local initiatives.

Financial & Operational Management

  • Oversee budgeting, financial reporting, compliance, and audits.
  • Manage daily operations, donor databases, vendors, and office systems.

Communications & Public Relations

  • Serve as the public representative of United Way.
  • Oversee marketing, media outreach, social media, and campaign materials.

Volunteer Engagement

  • Recruit and support volunteers and committees.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in nonprofit management, business, communications, or related field.
  • Strong fundraising, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience with budgeting, operations, and project management.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with professionalism and integrity.
  • Successful completion of required background checks.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Preferred: Experience with boards, nonprofit agencies, and CRM/donor systems.

Work Environment

  • Full-time, in-office role with occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Flexible scheduling.
  • Frequent interaction with donors, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Occasional lifting of campaign or event materials.

Compensation Package & Benefits Stipend

This position offers an annual compensation package starting at $75,000, which includes a benefits stipend.
